Working as part of an overseas aid project for the British Council I lived and worked in the Sultanate of Oman for over four years. As a book illustrator and designer my job was to provide design, page layouts and content for a series of English language text books specially written for an Omani audience.

Due to local cultural sensitivities hand-drawn illustrations were favored over photography. Also most of the illustrations produced didn't have the luxury of any source material (The Internet was still in it's infancy). Most of the drawings were out of the illustrators head based on observation and the occasional willing Omani work colleague posing for a Polaroid.
